If you are choosing a
diamond for the first time you will soon become
aware that each stone is different in quality and so in price. When considering
the quality of
Diamonds jewellers generally refer to the 4 C's being
Clarity, Cut, Carat and Colour.
- Clarity refers to the level of interior inclusions or flaws
which will in turn reduce the lustre the stone produces when light passes through.
- Cut refers to the way the diamond has been cut to maximise the beauty of
the stone by making the best use of the light.
- Carat is the size of the diamond. One Carat is divided into 100 points.
- Colour is the colour with the best Diamonds having no colour at all,
known as white. However there are other rare diamonds with a pure colour
such as pinks, blues or greens which are known as fancies.
So it is possible to look at two
diamonds of different Carat (or size) but
because the smaller has better clarity or colour it is more expensive.
Please don't be dismayed by what may appear to be a slightly bewildering
subject. At AA Thornton we are happy to show you a range of stones so
that you can see the difference for yourself. We will talk you through their
various qualities so you can decide which suits you best.
